"My thoughts do not aim for your assent - just place them alongside your own reflections for a while." - Robert Nozick (1938-2002)

"A life is either all spiritual or not spiritual at all. No man can serve two masters. Your life is shaped by the end you live for. You are made in the image of what you desire." - Thomas Merton (1915-1968)

"Being myself a disciple of the Federalists, I respect their practical wisdom." - Russell Kirk (1918 -1994)

"No tengo pretensiones a la originalidad: el lugar común, si es viejo, me basta." - Nicolas Gomez Davila (1913-1994)

Why ordered liberty?

"But what is liberty without wisdom, and without virtue? It is the greatest of all possible evils; for it is folly, vice, and madness, without tuition or restraint."

- Edmund Burke, English statesman, Whig member of Parliament, and grandfather of modern conservatism.

What is law?

"Law is nothing other than a certain ordinance of reason for the common good, promulgated by the person who has the care of the community."

- St. Thomas Aquinas, medieval scholastic and the model Catholic theologian.

Where do rights come from?

"The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of the divinity itself; and can never be erased."

- Alexander Hamilton, American patriot and Founding Father.

What is the goal of constitutional order?

"The aim of any good constitution is to achieve in a society a high degree of political harmony, so that order and justice and freedom may be maintained."

- Russell Kirk, American political theorist and writer.

What is the statist predicament?

"The position we have now reached is this: starting from the State, we try to remedy the failures of all the families, all the nurseries, all the schools, all the workshops, all the secondary institutions that once had some authority of their own. Everything is ultimately brought into the Law Courts. We are trying to stop the leak at the other end."

- G.K. Chesterton, English author and Catholic apologist.

William Shakespeare (1564-1616)

William Shakespeare (1564-1616)
"We must not make a scarecrow of the law / Setting it up to fear the birds of prey, / And let it keep one shape, til custom make it / Their perch and not their terror." (Measure for Measure, II, i.)

Richard M. Weaver (1910-1963)

Richard M. Weaver (1910-1963)
"In the last analysis, provincialism is your belief in yourself, in your neighborhood, in your reality. It is patriotism without belligerence. Convincing cases have been made to show that all great art is provincial in the sense of reflecting a place, a time, and a Zeitgeist."

“A society that has made ''nostalgia'' a marketable commodity on the cultural exchange quickly repudiates the suggestion that life in the past was in any important way better than life today.”
